Over the past year, City Fruit has been challenged to dig deeper into what growth looks like for this organization: beyond just the geography of our work, but also through the economic and social justice barriers that disconnect too many of our neighbors from this city’s land and food system. And, throughout this year’s Harvest, we made strides in growing deeper in our impact:
- We grew our harvest program into Queen Anne & Magnolia
- We launched Harvest Hubs & Harvest Ride-alongs to connect volunteers and partners to each other and to the harvest effort ·
- We hosted fruit camps all over the city, to offer hands-on experiences and education for hundreds of low-income students ·
- We hosted 500 volunteers and 50 community events ·
- We donated fruit to more than 40 food banks and community partners, all harvest season long ·
- And we protected 16 public orchards, managed hundreds of trees, and picked, one by one, tens of thousands of pounds of fruit, ensuring that they aren’t just consumed, but put to their best and fullest use, to serve, nourish, and connect neighbors all over this city.
But, there is still much more to do! In collaboration with our public and non-profit partners:
We are excited to launch our biggest expansion ever: Harvest for All 2018!
In 2018, City Fruit will expand to serve ALL of Seattle, growing into the Central District, Northgate, Capitol Hill, and downtown communities
And, for the first time ever, we will expand beyond our borders, into South King County, through our partnership with the International Rescue Committee’s New Roots Gardens
This expansion will push us deeper into our partnerships, our community organizing, and our volunteerism….everything that makes City Fruit great. But, we can’t do this alone – we never have – so we hope you’ll join us on this journey, as a donor, a member, a volunteer, and/or community ambassador.
Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Carrie Ferrence
City Fruit Executive Director
